Este viernes 18 de Mayo de 2012 de 10 a 23horas en el HUB, el CELAB de la Escuela Superior de Arquitectura de la Universidad Camilo José Cela celebra UNITseries#SUPERCRIT la fiesta final del ciclo UNIT SERIES en el que debatiremos sobre el sistema docente basado en las UNITS.

La jornada contará con una EXPOSICIÓN de los mejores trabajos de los alumnos de las UNITS de la ESAYT con la conferencia de  Enrique Walker de GSAPP Columbia New York y con y las mesas redondas CELAbtalks de Spiros Papadopoulus de Thessally, Prats y Flores, Coll y Lecreq de la ETSAB de Barcelona o Pedro Costa de la Escuela de Arquitectura de Coimbra.

El próximo Viernes 13 de Abril se presentará la tercera edición de CELABtalks que contará con la ponencia de Marcos Cruz ( Arquitecto, Director y Profesor de la Barlett School of Architecture) y Fernando Jerez ( Arquitecto, Coordinador y Profesor del Departamento de Arquitectura de la ESAYT) en el espacio HUB de madrid a las 19h. 

Sentient City

Our cities are "smart" and getting smarter as information processing capability is embedded throughout more and more of our urban infrastructure. Few of us object to traffic light control systems that respond to the ebbs and flows of city traffic; but we might be taken aback when discount coupons for our favorite espresso drink are beamed to our mobile phones as we walk past a Starbucks. Sentient City explores the experience of living in a city that can remember, correlate, and anticipate. Five teams of architects, artists, and technologists imagine a variety of future interactions that take place as computing leaves the desktop and spills out onto the sidewalks, streets, and public spaces of the city. 

"Too Smart City" employs city furniture as enforcers: a bench ejects a sitter who sits too long, a sign displays the latest legal codes and warns passersby against transgression, and a trashcan throws back the wrong kind of trash. "Amphibious Architecture" uses underwater sensors and lights to create a human-fish-environment feedback loop; "Natural Fuse" uses a network of "electronically assisted" plants to encourage energy conservation; "Trash Track" follows smart-tagged garbage on its journey through the city’s waste-management system; and "Breakout" uses wireless technology and portable infrastructure to make the entire city a collaborative workplace. 

Future of identity. Globalisation and architecture

It is reasonable to believe that individuals and communities identify with architecture and urban form, but this fact in itself is unremarkable. What is not clear, however, is how significant architecture and urban form are in the totality of how individuals and communities shape their identity in the current condition. By seeing architecture and urban form as a part of the greater phenomenon of identity we can advance our understanding of the impact that changes to buildings and places have on communities.

Posibles futuros para la práctica del diseño

El 21 º siglo ha dado paso a un mundo radicalmente diferente al que se enfrentaron nuestros predecesores. El auge de la globalización y la sociedad de la información, el dominio aparentemente inexpugnable del pensamiento de mercado, la inminente amenaza de la degradación ambiental y la erosión de la sostenibilidad social y la tolerancia, son sólo algunos de los desafíos que enfrentamos. Además, cada uno de estos temas han sido agravados por la actual crisis financiera de 2008, una carga para los gobiernos y los individuos con el espiral de la deuda y el desempleo, lo que limita nuestra capacidad de actuar.

El futuro de los arquitectos

¿Cuál puede ser el papel de los arquitectos en la próxima década? En el caso de arquitectos, que insisten en ser el maestro de obras, diseño, documentación y construcción de edificios (o espacios), o el cambio hacia nuevos servicios como la emergente industria de la consultoría de diseño donde la creatividad (por ejemplo, el pensamiento de diseño) es más apreciada que la entrega de los planos?
Los arquitectos se consideran a menudo subestimados entre otros interesados ​​en el proceso de planificación: tanto en el poder y la indemnización. A pesar de la repentina subida de los arquitectos-estrella, nuestro papel se vuelve menos importante. 

The future of architects

Education is all about trust. The best teachers embrace the future by trusting the student, supporting the growth of something that cannot be seen yet, an emergent sensibility that cannot be judged by contemporary standards. A school dedicated to the unique life and impact of the thoughtful architect must foster a way of thinking that draws on everything that is known in order to jump into the unknown, trusting the formulations of the next generation that by definition defy the logic of the present. Education becomes a form of optimism that gives our field a future by trusting the students to see, think, and do things we cannot.
